------
War’s getting bored with things in Vietnam.

DISCLAIMER: War belongs to Gaiman and Pratchett. The late 1960s belong to history in general.

The Americans had overextended themselves a couple years previously, but War wasn't about to tell them that - not when she was making good business out of the deal. She changed the side she favored depending on who amused her more that week, though by now even the Ho Chi Minh Trail was failing to hold her interest.

In short, Vietnam had become quite boring.

She was on the verge of giving the project up altogether until she found an American newspaper at an encampment and found out about the public opinion on the other side of the Pacific. People were starting to fight for peace - such a novel idea that she figured she'd get another four years at least out of this, on one continent or the other.

An article about the upcoming presidential election also caught her attention. It appeared to be causing quite a bit of the tension, and one possible candidate had in fact been assassinated.

She caught the first available plane to Chicago not long after that.
